Applying Strategic Planning Approaches for Good Natural Resource Governance

 

The landscape-level approach is increasingly being recognised and used to ensure effective integrated natural resource planning that links grass-roots and community based initiatives with wider national or regional perspectives. The approach encompasses a diversity of innovative practices involving sustainable natural resource management and attempts to merge ecosystem thinking with multi-stakeholder processes and good natural resources governance.


 

Venue: the Center for People and Forests, Bangkok, Thailand.

Dates: The course will be conducted from Monday 1st of November till and including Friday 2nd of December 2011.
 

Who should attend?

The course is designed for
  • Planners, managers and administrators from decentralised administrations especially those involved with natural resources management;
  • Project and NGO staff working on good natural resource governance and decentralised decision-making approaches;
  • Technical staff from natural resources and social development sectors including: agriculturalists; foresters; conservationists; water resources specialists; soil scientists; geographers; sociologists; and planners; and
  • Academics and researchers seeking to become familiar with current practice in landscape-level planning.

Requirements for Admission

Participants should be experienced professionals with several years of working experience in their subject matter area as well as competency in English language.

Fees

The tuition fee is 2100 Euro per participant. This covers all course materials and training expenses, health insurance while in Thailand and all costs incurred during the field visit (meals, accommodation and transport). An additional expense of US$ 180 per participant will be charged for accommodation when staying at RECOFTC (standard room with air-conditioning) for the duration of the course. WI/RECOFTC recommend that participants budget for US$ 12 per day while in Thailand to cover meals and incidentals.

Fellowships

A limited number of fellowships are available from the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) for applicants from South and South-East Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam). Applications for NFP fellowships should be submitted to Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation before May 1, 2011. For additional information on fellowships, go to: www.courses.wur.nl (under ‘Fellowships’).Wageningen International cannot provide any funds to finance the participants and is also unable to assist applicants in obtaining sponsorship.
